With its shining glory, it was irradiated by Rome. It remained part of the Eastern Roman Empire for many centuries. The Serbs came in the sixth century and created a country that was not part of either the eastern or western civilization, but is also part of both, at the same time. The founder of the Serbian church, St. Sava said: "Serbia is east in the west and west in the east ..." And so it is today. Traces of many civilizations are like pearls, as well as scars on the face of Serbia. About people, witnessed the Roman cities, Byzantine churches and fortresses, fortified Serbian towns, Turkish cobblestone roads, Austrian castles, but also incredible artistic mark of mother nature that has attracted all these people in the bosom of the Balkan beauty. West Serbia

The characteristic of west Serbia is moody, hot-tempered and legendary river Drina. It is a really slow and plain river, which after all the windings through the mountains on its upper course deserves to rest. Next to Drina, near Loznica is Trsić, a village with buildings from the beginning of the XIX century. Drina River with a lake Zvornik has become a symbol of tourism in Serbia. In the area of Ljubovija ethno villages have already been built. About the heroic history of west Serbia many monuments remind us – battles at Mišar, Cer, near Valjevo…

In the second week of June, a popular "Regatta on Drina" is held. Besides sports on water, mountaineers are recommended to visit Bobija mountain (1272 m) and a gorge of Trešnjica. In this area, there are also 3 spas, good for people who have problems with rheumatism.

East Serbia

The east has long been synonymous with mystery, secrecy, certain philosophies and beliefs by which life is interpreted. Eastern Serbia, too, harbours those very elements – bringing imagination to life. Wherever you go in eastern Serbia – whether to the mighty Iron Gate (Đerdap) Gorge or the beautiful villages around Bujanovačko Jezero lake – interesting things await you. Here, more than anywhere else in Serbia, reality and legend blend to such an extent that it is difficult know where one ends and the other begins.

The fertile plains of Vojvodina are dotted with ploughed fields, cornfields, vineyards and orchards, connected by irrigation and drainage canals between the large Danube and Tisa rivers, as well as the Sava, Tamiš, Begej and Nera rivers and the streams of Fruška Gora. Major waterways divide Vojvodina into Bačka, Banat and Srem.

The distinctive landscape of the Pannonian Plain is also sprinkled with lonely, old draw-wells in the fields and windmills which once harnessed the power of the wind to grind wheat. Horses gallop around the spacious plain, either harnessed into carriages or mounted in one of the many Vojvodinian stables.

The blend of peoples, languages, faiths and cultures, which live in harmony and with mutual respect, brighten up the towns and villages of Vojvodina, creating wonderful diversity in the architecture of houses and yards, the style of furniture in guest rooms, the colors and decorations of national dress, the taste of food, the music and folklore and folk and religious customs.

The Šumadija region is the spiritual and cultural capital of Serbia and has given its own touch and contribution to much of that which makes Serbia different. Here trumpets and pipes are provide musical entertainment, the kolo dance weaves in and out at major gatherings, cold days are warmed up by a mug of “Šumadija Tea” – (Serbian Rakia brandy heated and sweetened with honey or sugar), and people still gather round to hear stories of Serbian heroes and army commanders, great battles and even greater victories.

Maybe it is because of this historical legacy that every stone in the region has a story to tell. A special kind of roadside stone marking, the krajputaši, alert the traveler to moments in the region’s history or point the way to a famous landmark – but sometimes they just encourage the traveler to stop and take a break.

Herzegovina and North Montenegro

Herzegovina is the southern region of Bosnia and Herzegovina. While there is no official border distinguishing it from the Bosnian region, it is generally accepted that the borders of the region are Croatia to the west, Montenegro to the south, the canton boundaries of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton to the east, and Gornji Vakuf-Uskoplje to the north.

The name Herzegovina means "duke's land", referring to the medieval duchy of Herceg Stjepan. Herceg is derived from the German title Herzog.

The scenes of north of Montenegro, probably first comes to mind when we think of it’s natural beauty. First of all, Durmitor National Park, probably the most famous tourist brand of Montenegro. But there is far more beauty to explore there, besides Durmitor - there are vast spaces of plateau Sinjajevina and Moračke Mountain (Babin Zub, Lola, Cap Moracka - Lastva, cone), there are deep canyons of the river Tara, Piva, Komarnica (Nevidio), then Bioč and Volujak, incredible Maganik debris, and numerous mountain lakes (Captain, Trnovačko, Zabojsko, Vražje, Zminičko ...). It is difficult to cover in one view all that debris and wild, beautiful forests and Durmitor Sinjajevina, all the contrasts, and a magnificent sense of hermitage drawn into the pores, when you watch that high mountain part of Montenegro.

Kopaonik is the largest ski center in Serbia and offers countless beauties worthy of only an artist such as the Mother Nature.
